I've not really got my act together on this but I figure I'll get the journal started for the fun of it!

This is the future home of Zod (the betta, not the mod - I'd be massively overstocked) as he's getting his butt handed to him in my community tank. I decided to make it a little more interesting and do a biotope. Here are the plans so far:

Tank is an Arcadia Arc 35L (40 x 28 x 33cm) with the standard 11W ArcPod light and Arcadia Classica Power Bio 200 (200l/h) internal filter. This guy:

The tentative plant list is:

Pogostemon Helferi
Rotala Rotundifolia
Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica' (this one is bugging me a little because Sri Lanka is pretty far away from Thailand but the Thai crypts that seem to be available aren't really appropriate for this scape)

Thinking I'll need one more mid-ground plant in there? I dunno why because I don't even have the hardscape worked out yet lol. Though I am planning on some branching wood with maybe a rock or two in there.

Fauna:
Zod (male betta)
Celestial Pearl Danios OR Boraras Brigittae
Amano or Cherry Shrimp (depends on how much of an evil overlord Zod wants to be!)

The stocking also depends on how "purist" I decide to be; the CPDs and Amanos are found in Thailand whereas the others are just kind of nearby :P

So! That's as far as I've gotten - Please share any opinions you may have :D

Maybe some Barclaya, but it will out grow the tank at some point, on he other hand its a great centre piece and if trimmed might be ok.

Amano's all the way.

Nice plan Emily.

Caz had an Asian biotape running elsewhere, maybe take a peek.

Thanks guys!!

Lovely suggestion as usual Steveo, I'll have a look! :)

Thanks for the input regarding shrimp minnnt, any thoughts regarding the danios or the rasboras? I'm really struggling ot make up my mind :/ If I were to go with the amanos and the CPDs I'd have a totally Thai set up (apart from the stupid crypt, but it does seem perfect for this set up) which kind of appeals to me. But I understand that CPDs can be really shy and tend to stick to the lower parts of the tank. The rasboras would use the middle which sounds nicer AND they are red! Help a sista out!

Go with CPD's, they are shy and I had a group in my ARC 35, they hid among the bottoms of the stems but when your sitting in the room chilling watching telly all of a sudden they'll all come out and shoal beautifully. The Rasbora wont shoal like the CPD as they're braver, also if the room is quite active they'll get a little more used to it as time goes on, mine used to be out every evening as the light reflects on the glass and they can't see out so well. Your choice anyway, but I'd go with the CPD's. ;)

Sorry guys, hope you don't mind but I felt this forum was lacking in pictures of my obnoxious betta. I doubt there's much you haven't already seen here, it's just for posterity really!

Oh help. The guy at my LFS has just let me know they've got some Green Rasbora (Microdevario kubotai) in stock. Gorgeous little guys! They won't make as much of an impact as say the mosquito rasboras but they sure are nice...

Decisions decisions!

They might look really nice against a densely planted tank with the neon, but then again so might the red-ish colour of the chilli rasbora. It could be tricky to find some more small fish unless you've got a very good LFS or one that will order them in for you though, so it might be worth going for the green rasboras if you think you may struggle to get others.

Have you got the tank setup and started, then, or will they be going in the community tank for the time being?

Yeah it's got a glass top :) I don't trust the betta either - oh and then there's the cat :pinch:

Thanks Pablo, not getting them until the tank is set up, I'm a bit special when it comes to trying to catch fish so I don't fancy trying to catch them in the 180 to move them haha.
